Comm-Port's Under Vehicle Surveillance System available through
PRO Barrier Engineering
In response to demands for more comprehensive perimeter security solutions, PRO Barrier Engineering LLC has partnered with Comm-Port, of Fords, N.J. (www.comm-port.com) to integrate its vehicle inspection systems into PRO Barrier's Arrestor model anti-terrorism vehicle barriers.
Comm-Port produces the world’s most rugged and high-resolution color camera systems for inspecting the underside of vehicles for explosives and contraband. Their UVSS (Under Vehicle Surveillance System)—of which there are several models—is used at U.S. military facilities around the world. Its ease of use also means UVSS is finding increasing applications at high-security commercial facilities, such as nuclear power plants, refineries, chemical plants, and public venues (stadiums, hotels, etc.).
Built into easy-to-install above ground “speed bumps,” each UVSS has long-life cameras with scratch-resistant sapphire lenses, LED illumination, and advanced image processing software that makes it easy to examine the entire vehicle undercarriage in detail. A portable version is also available that can be quickly deployed and easily relocated.
In single vehicle barrier installations, PRO Barrier Engineering locates the UVSS ahead of the barrier so that full inspection takes place before the barrier is lowered for vehicle passage. However, for ultra high-security applications we also offer a unique two-barrier solution in which one vehicle barrier is always up, allowing for metered vehicle passage with no possibility of tailgating. In this case, one Arrestor barrier has the UVSS built directly into the barrier’s foundation. As that first barrier is lowered and the vehicle drives through, the UVSS scans the underside, while the second barrier remains up to seal the entrance. The first barrier is then raised, effectively trapping the vehicle between the two barriers while security personnel scrutinize the images and conduct other security inspections of the vehicle and the occupants. Once the vehicle is cleared, the second barrier opens and the vehicle passes through security and into the facility.
While this configuration is not suitable for high vehicle throughput, it does provide an exceptional level of perimeter protection. Contact us for additional information on Comm-Port’s Under Vehicle Surveillance System, and let’s discuss how this technology can be used effectively at your facility.
